Getting Started
A linear walkthrough — install Prosperity, understand how instanced loot and indicators work, and learn to read the five distance tiers.
1. Installation
Prosperity is a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 with zero external dependencies beyond Fabric API. You'll need:
- Install Fabric Loader 0.16.10+ via the official Fabric installer, targeting Minecraft 1.21.1. Prosperity requires Java 21.
- Download Fabric API and drop it into your
mods/folder. - Download Prosperity from the releases page and drop the jar into
mods/— on both the server and every client. - Launch the game once. The first run generates
.minecraft/config/prosperity.jsonwith default values.
Migrating from Lootr? Remove it first. Prosperity provides its own instancing layer and the two should not run together.
See the full config reference for every available setting.
2. How Instanced Loot Works
The first time you open a naturally generated container, Prosperity rolls loot just for you and stores it under your UUID. Other players who open the same chest get their own independent loot — no more racing to the good chests on a shared server.
The vanilla block is never replaced; instanced loot is attached to the container behind the scenes. Hoppers and comparators see an empty vanilla inventory, which is intended — your loot lives in your instance.
3. Reading the Indicators
A gold sparkle hovers above any container you haven't opened yet. Once you loot it, the sparkle disappears for you. In large structures this tells you at a glance what's left to explore.
4. Understanding Distance Tiers
Loot quality scales with how far a container is from world origin. The five tiers run Local → Frontier → Wilderness → Outlands → Depths, each raising stack quantities and quality:
| Tier | Distance | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Local | 0 – 999 | Baseline vanilla loot |
| Frontier | 1,000 – 2,999 | 1.5× stacks, +1 quality |
| Wilderness | 3,000 – 5,999 | 2.0× stacks, +2 quality |
| Outlands | 6,000 – 9,999 | 2.75× stacks, +3 quality |
| Depths | 10,000+ | 3.5× stacks, +4 quality |
Run /prosperity info to see your current tier, distance, and multipliers. Some structures override their tier — see structure overrides.
Prefer a glance to a chat command? Hold Left Alt — the default Peek Loot Detail bind, rebindable under Controls → Prosperity — to overlay your distance, current tier and progress, the full tier ladder, and the unlooted containers around you right now — see Peek Loot Detail.
